Resettled refugees
Government-assisted or privately sponsored refugees navigating the emotional and psychological demands of starting life in a new country.

Building a new life deserves care that honours your journey, your courage, and your story.
At ChangeMoment Mental Health Center, we provide counselling for individuals covered under the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) — a Government of Canada benefit that offers temporary health coverage to eligible refugees, protected persons, refugee claimants, and certain other groups who are not yet enrolled in a provincial health plan. Our Registered Clinical Counsellors offer in-person IFHP counselling in Coquitlam, BC, and online counselling across British Columbia, providing trauma-informed, culturally sensitive support for the emotional impact of displacement, resettlement, and starting over in a new country. We understand that the road to this moment may have been long and difficult, and we meet you with respect, patience, and care.

Government-assisted or privately sponsored refugees navigating the emotional and psychological demands of starting life in a new country.
Individuals who have received protected person status and may be carrying the weight of what they experienced before and during their journey.
People waiting for a decision on their refugee claim, often living with significant uncertainty, fear, and emotional strain.
Those who experienced war, persecution, displacement, loss, or violence and are still carrying the emotional impact of those experiences.
Newcomers navigating a new language, culture, and system who feel isolated, misunderstood, or disconnected from support.
People managing grief over what was left behind, while trying to build hope and stability in an unfamiliar place.
If you are covered under the Interim Federal Health Program, accessing counselling support can begin with a few straightforward steps.
The Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) is a Government of Canada program that provides limited, temporary health coverage — including eligible mental health counselling — to eligible refugees, protected persons, refugee claimants, and certain other groups who are not yet covered by a provincial or territorial health insurance plan. Coverage depends on the beneficiary's IFHP category and must be confirmed before care. Since May 1, 2026, eligible mental health counselling is a supplemental benefit with a 30% client co-payment. At ChangeMoment Mental Health Center, our team supports IFHP clients with trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, grief, resettlement stress, cultural adjustment, family challenges, and the many layers of emotional experience that come with starting over.

A calm structure, a clear next step, and room to move at your pace.
We begin by helping you feel grounded, heard, and emotionally safe — especially important if your nervous system has been under pressure for a long time.
Together, we explore the emotional weight of your journey — displacement, loss, uncertainty, and grief — at a pace that feels manageable and respectful.
We support you in rebuilding a sense of belonging, strengthening your connections, and developing the inner resources you need to move forward in your new home.

Hope turns each moment into Progress.
Progress in IFHP counselling often begins with feeling less alone — a sense that someone truly hears your story without judgement. You may begin to sleep a little better, feel less on edge, or find words for what you have been carrying. Over time, counselling can help reduce the grip of trauma, ease anxiety and sadness, strengthen your sense of identity and belonging, and build confidence as you settle into your life in Canada.
You do not have to carry everything alone. Reach out today and let us walk alongside you.
