Identity exploration and self-acceptance
You may be exploring who you are, how you want to express yourself, or what it means to feel more at home in your identity.

A respectful space to feel seen, supported, and fully yourself.
At ChangeMoment Mental Health Center, our LGBTQ+ counselling services offer an affirming and confidential space for individuals and couples exploring identity, relationships, family dynamics, emotional health, and life transitions. Our Registered Clinical Counsellors provide in-person LGBTQ+ counselling in Coquitlam, BC, and online counselling across British Columbia, supporting clients with care that respects sexual orientation, gender identity, culture, relationships, and lived experience. Whether you are seeking support around anxiety, depression, coming out, self-acceptance, family conflict, relationship stress, discrimination, or simply wanting a counselling space where you do not have to explain or defend who you are, our team is here to meet you with warmth and respect.

You may be exploring who you are, how you want to express yourself, or what it means to feel more at home in your identity.
You may be navigating when, how, or whether to share parts of your identity with family, friends, work, or community.
You may feel caught between your identity, family expectations, cultural values, religion, or fear of rejection.
You may be navigating communication, trust, intimacy, boundaries, attachment, or relationship structures.
Experiences of stigma, exclusion, misgendering, homophobia, transphobia, or feeling unsafe can take a real emotional toll.
You may feel isolated, misunderstood, or tired from carrying parts of yourself alone.
LGBTQ+ people may face stressors that are not always visible to others, including discrimination, rejection, safety concerns, pressure to hide parts of themselves, or the emotional labour of constantly explaining their identity. These experiences can affect self-esteem, relationships, trust, belonging, and mental health. Counselling can offer a space to name these pressures clearly, understand their impact, and reconnect with your own voice, needs, and sense of worth. Anxiety and depression can affect anyone, but LGBTQ+ clients may also carry the added weight of rejection, discrimination, concealment, family conflict, or feeling unsafe in certain spaces. The goal is not to reduce your experience to your identity, but to understand the full context of your life with care and respect.

A calm structure, a clear next step, and room to move at your pace.
Counselling can support you in exploring your identity, strengthening self-acceptance, working through shame, and feeling more grounded in who you are.
Our counsellors provide respectful support around gender identity, pronouns, social transition, family conversations, body-related stress, emotional safety, and navigating systems that may not always feel affirming.
We support LGBTQ+ clients and couples with dating, intimacy, communication, boundaries, family conflict, cultural expectations, coming out conversations, and rebuilding connection with important people in their lives.

Hope turns each moment into Progress.
Progress in LGBTQ+ counselling may begin with feeling less alone and less guarded. You may start to feel safer naming your needs, setting boundaries, understanding your emotions, or showing up more honestly in your relationships. Over time, counselling can help you feel more grounded in who you are, more connected to supportive people, and more able to move through life with confidence, self-respect, and belonging.
